ELMCARE, L.L.C. is a 50-50 joint venture Physician Hospital Organization (PHO) of physicians and Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare; working together to meet the patients’ needs, share in financial risk and provide quality, efficient healthcare.

ELMCARE began in 1995 by the joining of Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and Elmhurst physicians as a PHO, to contract with managed care plans. Since then, both ELMCARE physicians and Elmhurst Memorial Hospital have enjoyed managed care success both financially and operationally.

The fifty percent physician ownership is made up of thirty percent ownership by Elmhurst Physicians’ Association (EPA), the independent physician practices affiliated with Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, and twenty percent physician ownership by the Elmhurst Clinic, a multi-specialty clinic with facilities in and around Elmhurst. Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare owns the remaining 50% of the organization.

Stability - Since 1995, ELMCARE has been recognized as one of the premier PHOs in the Chicago area. ELMCARE has had consistent leadership through both physician and administrative personnel. Four active Committees (Credentials, Finance and Contracting, Medical Advisory and Planning and Marketing) report directly to the ELMCARE Board of Managers. The Executive Director as well as most of the ELMCARE staff are long-time employees of the PHO. ELMCARE physicians enjoy the benefit of stability in both the risk HMO arena and the non-risk plans via ELMCARE negotiated contracts, pro-active policies and procedures and service-oriented operational functions. ELMCARE is delegated by all contracted health plans for physician credentialing.

Accessibility - ELMCARE physicians have access to all the major health plans through their ELMCARE affiliation. Whether the physician’s business plan includes all levels of health care programs, or is limited to the fee-based plans (non-risk), joining ELMCARE affords him/her an array of health plan products with competitive reimbursements.
